The objectives of the modules are:

  • Understand the phases of wound healing and how infection can interfere.
  • Increase awareness of wound swabs and biofilm.
  • Recognise signs and symptoms of infections on common wounds in aged care.
  • Able to identify wound dressings based on their function and characteristics.
  • Differentiate between types of standard antimicrobial dressings.

This certificate has an industry recommended renewal period of 12 months

1. Know your dressings by their categories and functions 

2. Signs and symptoms of wound infection in chronic wounds in comparison to acute wounds signs and symptoms 

3. Knowledge of the use of antimicrobial dressings to reduce antibiotic resistance

4. How to appropriate a dressing that can accommodate the amount of wound exudate

5. Wound swabbing and biofilm

6. Phases of wound healing
